IMPACT! Meteor Crater is about 20 minutes west of Winslow, Arizona and our first stop today. This is the best preserved and first proven meteorite impact center in the world. It is about 1 mile across and 560 feet deep. The crater was created about 50,000 years ago. We took the guided 30 minute tour and many photos! A very interesting place to visit as a short side trip from the Mother Road.

Our destination for today is Winslow, Arizona. Yep, we were actually “Standing on the Corner in Winslow, Arizona!” They have a park commemorating the song written by Jackson Brown & sung by the Eagles. They even have a flat bed Ford sitting there. And, of course, Eagles music playing. It’s quite the photo op!

Winslow also boasts the Mother Road’s Smallest Church, so we had to take a peek. It has a cross, an altar, a Spanish Bible and 2 seats!

We walked along the railroad tracks and came upon The Skinny Indian, a 30 foot tree carving. You never know what you’ll see along the route.

Our home for the night night was a beautiful (complimentary up-graded) room in the famous, historic Fred Harvey La Posada Hotel. An opulent 1930 Railroad Hotel, many VIPs have been guests (Howard Hughes, John Wayne, Clark Gable, FDR, Harry S Truman, Jane Fonda and Jackson Browne, (who stays often) to name a few.

Our room had a king-size bed, hand-painted dressers, and a sitting area (couch, chairs, and a large bureau - great for video editing!) We also relaxed in a jacuzzi tub. The accommodations were quite lovely.
Tomorrow’s journey takes us off the Mother Road and into Sedona, Arizona ~ Red Rock Country!
