8/10

We woke from our marina campsite on the Red River and headed into downtown Duluth, Minnesota.  We stopped into Duluth Coffee and Tea and I had my usual Earl Grey and Dan, his usual, hot chai latte.  We took our beverages down to the Lake Walk Boardwalk along Lake Superior.

I waded in up to my ankles.  Let’s say it was refreshing.  Dan sat on the beach.  I also skipped some agates back into the lake.  I always think it took the little stones a long time to make it to the beach, and then I just skip them back in.  I guess I just gave them another adventure!

Next we drove into Ironwood, Michigan where we came upon Hiawatha, the tallest Indian sculpture in the world.  He stands at 52 feet! And boy does he have big moccasins!

We headed into Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park.  This is one of the last places in Michigan we have not been.  I was so excited.  We hiked down the trails along the Presque Isle River to see several waterfalls and a suspension bridge.  It was very serene and lovely.  It was wonderful traveling the coastline of Lake Superior

Our camp for tonight was in Union Bay campground on Superior.  Tomorrow, the journey continues!
