Palm Springs to Big Bear

7/18

Lazy start to a day, we just took our time leaving our campsite in Palm Springs.  Dan needed some WiFi, so we headed to the Starbucks Reserve (think fancier.) While he uploaded inside, enjoying his Iced Chai Latte, I relaxed outside, sipping on my Green Iced Tea.  It was lovely, sitting and doing some Palm Springs people watching!

Some interesting street names in Palm Springs:  Bob Hope Drive, Dinah Shore Street, and Sonny Bono Highway.

We had a 2 1/2 hour drive north to Big Bear Lake.  We ended up ascending the mountain at a 10% grade and lots and lots of exciting (read:  scary) switchbacks!

We arrived, all in one piece.  The weather was still blue skies and sunny, but dropped about 35 degrees.  From 110 degrees in Palm Springs (which I loved) to about 75 degrees (which Dan loved.)

Big Bear Lake and the surrounding San Bernardino National Forest are better known for their ski resorts.  The village is full of shops, restaurants, and pubs!  We found only one restaurant that had a couple of vegan dishes.

I was quite surprised, being California and all.  We sat on an upstairs, outdoor balcony, looking over the mountains and village; a good choice.

We finished our day catching a quick sunset behind the mountains and headed back to camp.

Tomorrow:  back to Route 66 and onto the greater Los Angeles area.
