June 17th:

We started the next day at the Cozy Dog Drive-In - home of the Cozy Dog.  It’s the birthplace of the first corn dog!  The owner and originator was Ed Waldmire, Bob Waldmire’s father!  Ed wanted to call the first corn dog the Crusty Cur, but his wife Virginia had him change it to the Cozy Dog. Whew!  We met Josh Waldmire!  He served us!  He is the grandson of Ed and Bob’s nephew!!!!  So Dan had a Cozy Dog for breakfast.  They did not have vegan, so I watched. It smelled good, though.

Later we found ourselves driving on some 1920’s original concrete Mother Road and some original 1932 brick road on Route 66!  Wowee!!!  We drove by the famous turkey prints some turkey made in the 1920’s that have now made him famous, too.
We drove into Carlinville and spent the night at the Carlinvilla Motel, an original Route 66 Motel. The owners, Gia and Kurt were so kind.  Once they found out I was vegan (so were they) they shared lunch, dinner and breakfast the next day with me.  They are originally from India and have owned the hotel for 13 years.  There Indian, vegan food was delicious.  We also shared some Indian chai tea.  I was in heaven.  The motel is a quaint place to stay!
