London Bridge is...in Arizona!

The Ramblers are “on a break.”  We rambled our way off Route 66 and onto Lake Havasu.  We camped for 2 nights at Lake Havasu State Park in Arizona.  It was a quiet campground, not many campers, right on the beach.  We were surrounded by desert, mountains, palm trees, a lake and beach.  Our view was looking across the lake into California!

We spent the days floating or sitting on the beach.  Sunsets were spectacular over the mountain range in front of us.  It was though we had a own private showing.

We did venture into town to run a couple of errands. We also had to see a wee bit of London.  The London Bridge, not to be confused with the famous Tower Bridge near Big Ben.  This bridge was brought over from England and reconstructed over Lake Havasu.

The bridge was built around 1799 across the River Thames. However, over the years, and with modern transportation, the bridge took a beating. It was crumbling and actually sinking an inch or so every few years.  So in 1967, they decided to auction it off.  The winning bid went to Mr. McCulloch, who was developing Lake Havasu as a resort town.  A crew dismantled the bridge and numbered every brick.  Then it was shipped down the Panama Canal into California and trucked to Arizona.  Here, it was rebuilt piece by piece.  The bridge is adorned with both US & UK flags.  There are gift shops, a pub, and a fish & chip restaurant at the base.

Now, what will tomorrow bring?
