Detroit! What?
Well, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota was our first stop. It is a resort town
with several lakes. There are beaches, water sports, cabins, and
several lakefront restaurants with outdoor seating. We walked
along the beach of Detroit Lake. Here I collected some snail shells
for our friend. Hope they make it home unbroken! We had lunch
at Zorba’z on the Lake, where the gimmick was every letter “s” was a
“z” on the signs and menus. Zowee!

Our next stop: Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
This is the Birthplace of Frances Ethel Gumm, aka: Judy Garland! Here was the home she lived in for the first 4 years of her life. The home is part of a museum, largely dedicated to the Wizard Oz. This is one of the largest privately owned WoO collections in the world. They have one of the 5 pair of Ruby Slippers, one of her blue dresses, and the Horse of a Different Color Carriage! Sadly, it was closed when we were in town, but we enjoyed the exterior park surrounding the home and museum!

We found a campsite on the banks of the Red River. It was a marina/campground! We were right on the river and could see downtown Duluth in the distance.
Here we slumber amongst the crickets and thousands of fish flies (known as Mayflies in these parts!).
Until tomorrow...
