This morning brings us to Santa Rosa, New Mexico. Here we find ourselves at the Route 66 Auto Museum. A custom car builder called Bozo (a childhood nickname) and his wife have owned this Classic Car museum for over 40 years. You can see over 40 beautifully restored and/or customized cars from the last several decades. There are many other interesting car-related items and Route 66 memorabilia to enjoy. And boy, did we!
.

We had a longer drive to our next destination, as we left the main Route 66 and headed on a side trip toward Santa Fe, (the original route.) We had some dramatic views of the mesas, mountains, and desert as a thunderstorm was approaching. The scenery has gone from the lush greens and rolling plains of the Midwest to the wide open spaces of Texas. And now the oranges, browns and reds of the New Mexico mountains and plateaus.

Las Vegas, New Mexico was our destination. There is a ton of history here! There are over 900 buildings on the National Historical Registry, and over 120 movies and television shows have been shot here; from "Easy Rider" and "Red Dawn" to "We’re the Millers".
Doc Holliday owned a saloon here, Wyatt Earp lived here, and Butch Cassidy once was a bartender here. Bob Ford, another saloon keeper here, is famous for killing Jesse James.
We had lunch at the Historic Plaza Hotel (a film locale for "No Country for Old Men".)

We had beverages at the first trackside Harvey Hotel, the La Castaneda Hotel. For a small town, it sure has a lot of history!
Our home for this night was the Las Vegas KOA. So, we head to bed and look forward to Santa Fe!
As always,
