Bryce Canyon...Land of Hoodoos

7/30

Today was our first day of rain and cooler temperatures in weeks!  I did not like it one bit. We went from 117 degrees yesterday morning in Las Vegas to 60 degrees at our campsite in Bryce Canyon City today.  Ugh!

Today we traveled to a few lookout points in Bryce Canyon.  We caught a small window of no rain from about 9-11, so we took it.  All 4 of our stops were looking down from various vantage points into the Bryce Amphitheater.  It’s a gigantic canyon full of hoo-doos.  Hoo-doos are crimson colored spire-shaped rock formations.  They remind me of silly sand or sand castles from the beach.  It looks a lot like a fairy tale canyon.

We walked along the 9000 foot elevation rim peering down into this amphitheater.  We went to 4 viewing areas: Sunrise Point, Sunset Point, Inspiration Point (the most beautiful), and Bryce Point.  By the time we got to Bryce, it was beginning to rain again.   So we headed back out of the park.  What a wonder this place is!

The rest of the day was very overcast and rainy.  Lucky for us, it was basically a travel day as we headed north toward Salt Lake City, Utah.  We did stop in Provo for lunch, Good Thyme Eatery (farm to table, with several vegan options!) It was yummy!  Provo is a nice college town, Brigham Young University is in the central part of town.

Then we were unlucky enough to hit rush hour heading to Salt Lake City.  Here we found a campground not too far from downtown SLC.  Tomorrow we will check out the town.
